Book Talk Tuesday- Gone Girl

Last week:

Gone GirlWhat is it about? On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

What do I think so far? Again, I am just starting, but I find myself trying to figure out why Amy and Nick are married. They claim they had a great relationship before they lost their jobs, but it sounds like Amy hates everything Nick does. I guess that's one of those " you can't help who you love" type relationships, but seriously. I just don't get it when some people are together. If you are crying more than you are laughing then that is a big sign!
I found in the huffingtonpost where a psychiatrist weighs in on mental state of Amy and all their problems. (contains spoilers) I don't suggest opening unless you have read the book already.
So far, I find myself disliking Nicks wife, Amy, a lot. I can't tell if it's because the book is written from Nicks perspective or what but she is just negative, stuck up, and nags soooo much! Girls are very good at being annoying (I'm allowed to say that being a girl and all) but maybe that's why I am siding with Nick right now. Who knows... I will tell you all more once I get a little more invested into the book!!!

This Week:

Now what do I think? I feel somewhat guilty because I am so happy she is gone! I don't mean that as I am happy this poor woman got taken to who knows where, but now the story is beginning! At first I hated Amy and their relationship. Now, seeing it from the beginning, I am undecided. They were so cute to begin with! How did it just change. I don't understand how you can be so head over heels for someone and then those feelings just fade away. Is it really possible for someone to just change that fast? I guess it it. Circumstances can cause a person to act cold or hold back, but this extreme change in their relationship seems a bit much to me. Then again Amy was taken away from everything she had known, so I guess that major change in her life could have caused her depression to worsen.
The book is starting to get interesting! Nick seems kinda off with dealing with the anger issues he inherited from his father. I mean.. who smiles at a press conference when your talking about your wife missing. No wonder people in the book suspect him. Amy herself is annoying and complains too much. they are both interesting and odd characters. I am very interesting to see where this goes!
Stay tuned for more!
